I have a knack of watching films and falling in love with the time/place/era in which they're set. This time it's The Boat that Rocked, I love the 60's anyway but it's just amplified my passion for all things Mod. I often sit and wonder whether I would have been a Mod or a Rocker and I just can't decide. For now, I'll just say I would probably have been a Mod. This is because of my tendency to find 80% of guy's with a Mod style ridiculously attractive. The 60's were a time for rebellion and breaking the mould- everything was brand new, exciting and unknowingly iconic. Mary Quant's mini-skirt was the divide between young girls and their mothers. The tapered trousers and thin lapels of the Italian style, became a new youth cult and the men added striped blazers, Fred Perry shirts and the Mod scooter, a Lambretta if possible. There's so much to love about 60's pop culture....

I think my heart-print pinny-style dress with an A-line shape fits the bill for 60's fashion quite well and my glasses just finish it off.

As part of my Photography A Level I'm working on a theme of 'Indulgence' so straight away I thought of food- Sweets/Candy (whatever) to be precise. However I didn't want the photographs to turn into commercial food photography yaawn! Hence, I ended up here on Rankin's page admiring his beauty shots of models with bold lipstick chomping on macaroons and chicken legs. I loved his use of bright, clashing colour to create garish photographs, so this is what I focused on.

I also wanted to incorporate influences from some of my other favourite photographers/artists, I knew I had to include the two Tims- Walker and Burton. The closest links come from Tim Burton's remake of the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Liquorice Catherine Wheels as goggles and bright coloured hair reminiscent of the oompa loompas' chosen style. The hair also reminds me of residents of the fictional Capitol City in The Hunger Games books, I took a lot of inspiration from this look along with Tim Burton and Tim Walker's work.

Bite the lightning and tell me how it tastes.

First things first I'd like to share some of my less personal photos of Leeds Fest, it was one of the most amazing weekends of my life. I'm a little late with this post but the memories are still fresh as if it was yesterday- how could I forget such an awesome time? Great friends and great music makes for a great weekend in my eyes. I was definitely ready for my own bed and a hot shower by the time Sunday rolled around but it was so worth it. My personal highlights were definitely Florence (I end up yelling 'SAY MY NAAA-AAAME' whenever it's played on the radio, I got on my friend's shoulders and my view of Flo was fab) Kasabian (Especially Tom closing their set with a cover of The Beatles - She Loves You acapella and just losing it to Vlad the Impaler) Kaiser Chiefs, Bombay Bicycle Club, Crystal Castles (2nd time this year) and The Cure.. The Cure blew me away. I feel so privileged to have heard them live.

And then there's my Eighteenth birthday night out...

I spent my Eighteenth birthday night out in the Cloud 23 bar at Manchester Deansgate Hilton with all the girls in my family, after eating at Red Hot World Buffet with my whole family. We all enjoyed cocktails like Margharita and Singapore Sling, while finishing off a Magnum of Pommery Brut. Our waiter was absolutely stunning: tall, defined jaw, perfect teeth, dark hair and bright blue eyes... The views- Oh My! Those views are something else altogether.

And finally... Even more recently I've had my hair cut into a fringe. So far I've been told I look like a prim and proper lady, a sophisticated business woman and that it makes me look older.. I just think this picture makes me look like a posey bitch but o well.. I love my ginger fur coat it's honestly like walking around in my duvet! Perfect now it's getting colder.
